Laura Kennett knows who holds the power over a project… The Sponsor! She was a Project Sponsor of the 2016 PMINAC Project of the year: Enbridge’s Deadhorse Creek Phase 2, and has been at the leading edge of sponsoring unique, multi-million dollar liquid pipeline projects throughout Canada and the United States on behalf of Enbridge Inc. Laura is presently the Supervisor of Pipeline Asset Integrity Projects at Enbridge in Edmonton, AB. Over the past 15 years, she has lived in the shoes of both a Project Manager and a Project Sponsor and is acutely tuned to the different powers that the Project Sponsor and Project Manager hold.
Laura is a Professional Engineer with a Masters Degree in Engineering and Technology Management and a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Project Management Professional with PMI, certified in Asset Management from the international Institute of Asset Management, and a Fellow with the Energy Futures Lab in Alberta. Her focus is on projects that maximize asset performance and increase system reliability in sustainable ways for our transitioning energy sector. Laura is also a seasoned Toastmaster, a Board Member of the Human Venture Leadership charitable organization, and Chair of Enbridge’s 2018 United Way Employee Campaign.
Laura has worked in operations and projects at Enbridge in both Canada and the US, preceded by industrial plant maintenance projects in Alberta’s Oilsands Region and industrial maintenance and environmental operations in the steel industry in the Edmonton area. Her forte is in cross-departmental collaboration and she works with groups that have varying degrees of expertise and maturity in project management. She understands how the key role of the Project Sponsor can have a direct influence on the realization of benefits from project investments.
